Air Innovations, the leader in custom environmental control solutions, released a new case study detailing an aerospace portable environmental control system project.

This project provided a vast array of challenges which included controlling temperature to ±2°F and keeping humidity levels between 10%-50% RH at any temperature in the range (45-95°F). This self-powered, 100% redundant PECS also needed to prevent contamination of the payload by ensuring tight control of particle cleanliness as well as hydrocarbon removal.

Air Innovations manufactured a PECS that met the challenges listed above. The system was also the largest cooling system we have designed and built, requiring 553-2,133 SCFM ±67 SCFM.

The self-contained unit regulates humidity between 10%-50% RH and controls temperature output to ±2°F. The system was portable and trailer-mounted with 100% outside air supplied for continuous temperature and humidity control to the Payload Fairing.
