Air Innovations, the leader in custom environmental control solutions is proud to announce a donation of 22 HEPAirX® units to the University of Rochester Medical Center. The HEPAirX is a patented window mounted unit that is designed for filtration, ventilation and isolation. The unit is a uniquely integrated combination of an energy recovery ventilator, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration, heater, and air conditioner which is conveniently window-mounted.
The University of Rochester Medical Center seeks to explore whether 2 months of home air cleaning with the HEPAirX® ventilating room air purifier will improve home air quality, improve patients’ quality of life, and decrease the burden of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) for patients.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) affects 6% of the population and is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Recognizing that adults spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, indoor air pollution is an important contributor to AECOPD. The University of Rochester Medical Center treats 90-100 admissions for AECOPD per month and is a regional leader in COPD care.
